About Us
Welcome to the Town of Tabiona! Officially established as "Tabiona" in 1915, the Town was previously known as Tabbyville, and before that, Fort Tabiona. The town's name originates from Chief Tabby of the Shoshone-Timpanogos Nation, also known as Chief Tabby-To-Kwanah. Chief Tabby is best known for his efforts to establish peace between settlers and Native Americans in Utah during the Black Hawk War of the mid 1860s. Following the creation of the Uintah Reservation in 1861, the area was opened for homesteading in the early 1900s. Many families, including those of Italian and Eastern European descent, established homesteads in the Tabiona Valley. The early years of Tabiona Industry included cattle and sheep raising as well as hay and grain. Dairies also brought in a sizable contribution to the local economy as well, and many locals raised a variety of vegetable crops. Today, the Town of Tabiona maintains its rich heritage of farmers and ranchers as many still utilize the land of their relatives to provide for their families and give back to this wonderful community.
